Terms And Conditions

Dog training terms and conditions primarily protect the trainer and the business from liability while outlining the responsibilities of both parties. These contracts cover payment, safety, training methods, and client expectations. While specifics vary, the clauses below are standard for Paw and Disorder dog training services, such as group classes, private lessons, or board-and-train programs. Client and dog suitability

  • Health and vaccination records: Clients must provide proof that their dog's vaccinations are up-to-date and that the dog is on a parasite control regime. A trainer may not be held liable for the spread of infectious disease between dogs.
  • Full disclosure of history: The owner must fully and honestly disclose their dog's behavioral history, including any aggression, bite history, or medical conditions, upon booking. Failure to do so may result in termination of services without a refund.
  • Suitability for class: The trainer reserves the right to remove a dog from a class if it is deemed unsuitable due to excessive barking or aggression. Alternative arrangements, such as private lessons, may be offered.
  • Appropriate attendance: Trainers may set rules regarding attendance, such as prohibiting females in season from group classes.

Liability and safety

  • Owner responsibility: The client is responsible for their dog's behavior, safety, and control at all times during sessions. The trainer accepts no liability for any loss, injury, or damage caused by the client's dog to any person or property.
  • Assumption of risk: Clients accept that participating in training activities with other dogs and people carries risks, and they assume full responsibility for any injuries or damages that may occur.
  • Veterinary costs: The client is responsible for all veterinary bills for their dog, regardless of how they are incurred.
  • Proper equipment: Owners must use the appropriate training equipment, such as well-fitted flat collars or harnesses, and avoid aversive equipment like prong or shock collars.

Training methods and expectations

  • Force-free approach: Many trainers specify their use of positive reinforcement and force-free training methods and state that aversive tools and harsh handling are not permitted.
  • No guarantee of results: Due to the many variables involved, trainers typically do not guarantee specific training results. Success depends heavily on the client's commitment to consistently practicing at home.
  • Owner homework: The owner is responsible for following through on the trainer's instructions and "homework" to achieve and maintain training progress.
  • Intellectual property: Training plans and materials created by the trainer are for the client's sole use and should not be shared with third parties.

Scheduling, payments, and cancellations

  • Payment terms: Payments are typically due at the time of booking. The trainer may charge interest or administrative fees for late payments or returned transactions.
  • Cancellation policy: A cancellation notice period is specified (e.g., 24, 48 hours, or 14 days). Cancellations with insufficient notice may result in forfeiture of the fee or a handling charge.
  • Trainer-initiated cancellations: The trainer can cancel a session due to unforeseen circumstances, such as illness or extreme weather. They may offer a rescheduled session or a refund in such cases.
  • Refund policy: A refund policy is defined, which may include a cooling-off period for online courses or a pro-rata refund for cancellations based on certain circumstances.

Media and privacy

  • Use of media: The trainer may take photos or videos during sessions for promotional or educational purposes. Clients can opt out of having their dog's images shared.
  • Data protection: Client information is collected for the purpose of providing services. Details may be shared with others, such as a veterinarian, as necessary.

Disclaimer:  The content of any specific contract can vary widely. It is not legal advice. Clients should read and understand the terms presented by their trainer and consult with a legal professional for specific concerns.
